Nintendo Switch Games Upgraded for Switch 2: Breath of the Wild, Metroid Prime 4
During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly all of its Nintendo Switch catalog will be playable on the Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, several popular titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions with unique features. These include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game comes with distinct enhancements. The spotlight began with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV" featuring mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble effects, and gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory.
Next up were Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will benefit from improved resolution, higher framerates, and HDR support. Additionally, these games will integrate with a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called "Zelda Notes." This service offers voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks and enables sharing of creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new exclusive story, "Star-Crossed World," alongside enhanced graphics and framerates.
Two eagerly awaited titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also see upgrades. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will boast better resolution and framerates.
These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

In addition to first-party titles, several third-party games are also receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will support mouse controls, and Street Fighter 6, featuring exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.
Nintendo hinted at these upgraded editions last week with a brief mention on a webpage related to the newly announced Virtual Game Card system. The footnote clarified that these special editions cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
