Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Prices Rise, Fans React to Increased Costs
Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accompanying accessories. While the price of the console itself remains unchanged, there have been significant adjustments to the cost of accessories, sparking varied reactions among early adopters and potentially influencing their pre-order decisions.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 for the base model, and $499.99 for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World. The kart racing game continues to be available as a standalone purchase at $79.99, while the new title, Donkey Kong Bananza, is set at $69.99.
However, the accessory prices have seen a broad increase. Here's a detailed breakdown:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
- Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
- Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
- Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99
Nintendo's official announcement on their website stated that the price adjustments for Switch 2 accessories were necessitated by shifts in market conditions. Notably, many of the pricier items like the Joy-Con 2 Pair, the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera have seen a $5 increase. The Switch 2 Dock Set experienced a larger $10 price hike, moving from $109.99 to $119.99.
The new pricing for accessories, particularly the Joy-Con 2 Pair which is now just $5 shy of $100, has left many prospective buyers surprised and somewhat dismayed. Discussions around these price increases have been widespread, with many expressing concerns over the cost.
However, it's important to note that Nintendo has confirmed that several Switch 1 accessories will remain compatible with the Switch 2. This includes the original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller, which can be wirelessly paired with the new console, though the original Joy-Cons cannot be directly attached. Other legacy controllers like those for the Super Nintendo and N64 will also be compatible with the Switch 2 for use with compatible games.

Community discussions have highlighted the compatibility of Switch 1 accessories, and some users are even considering third-party options. While these alternatives may not offer all the features of the Switch 2 controllers, such as the C-button or the ability to wake the console, they could represent a cost-saving measure for some buyers.
Nintendo has also cautioned that future price adjustments are possible, depending on market conditions. This flexibility in pricing might offer some reassurance to those who feel the current prices are a bit steep, especially knowing that existing Pro controllers can still be used with the Switch 2.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will open on April 24, 2025, giving fans ample time to consider their options and plan their purchases accordingly.
