"Netflix Stories Cancelled: Still Playable!"
Netflix has officially announced the closure of its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief yet intriguing venture into narrative gaming. Despite having a dedicated player base, the decision to discontinue Netflix Stories may come as a surprise to many. So, what led to the cancellation of Netflix Stories? Let's dive into the details!
According to Variety, this move is part of a larger strategic shift at Netflix Games. The company is now steering its focus toward mobile titles that encompass party games, games for kids, mainstream releases, and more interactive experiences that can be enjoyed on TV. This pivot in strategy signals a new direction for Netflix Games, aiming to broaden its appeal and engagement across various demographics.
Despite the closure of Netflix Stories, Boss Fight Entertainment, the creative force behind the series, will continue to collaborate with Netflix on other exciting projects, including the much-anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.
Is Netflix Stories Shutting Down?
Despite facing some criticism, Netflix Stories has consistently been among the most-played games on the platform. Recent data shows it ranking fourth in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, which is based on playtime rather than downloads.
Looking ahead, the final interactive title in the Netflix Stories lineup will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Once its rollout concludes, no new games will be developed under the Netflix Stories banner. This announcement comes shortly after the Netflix Stories app began teasing its next game, The Love Contract, slated for an April 8th release. This upcoming title, an original romance story about an actress navigating a complex relationship between a Hollywood star and a billionaire amidst fame, scandal, and fake dating, has unfortunately been scrapped.
While no new games will be developed, the existing Netflix Stories titles will remain available for players to enjoy. Games such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter's Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple will continue to be accessible. However, planned sequels for popular series like Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been cancelled.
That's the latest on Netflix Stories! If you're a fan of Netflix shows, you can still explore these games on the Google Play Store.
