First Mortal Kombat 1 T-1000 Gameplay Looks Straight Out of Terminator 2, and There's a Surprise Kameo DLC Character Coming Too
Get ready for some serious metallic mayhem! NetherRealm Studios has unleashed the first gameplay footage of the T-1000, the iconic Terminator villain, as a DLC guest character in Mortal Kombat 1. The footage showcases a range of brutal attacks, drawing inspiration from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, including his signature blade and hook arms. His moveset blends elements reminiscent of Baraka and Kabal, culminating in a truly spectacular liquid metal transformation and uppercut – a nod to Glacius from Killer Instinct.
Robert Patrick, the actor who immortalized the T-1000 in the 1991 film, reprises his role, lending his voice to the character. The teaser features a thrilling showdown with Johnny Cage, culminating in a Fatality that faithfully recreates the unforgettable truck chase scene from Terminator 2, ending with Cage meeting a very unpleasant end.
But that's not all! NetherRealm surprised fans with the announcement of Madam Bo, a fan-favorite character from the base game's story, joining the roster as a DLC Kameo fighter. We get a quick glimpse of Madam Bo in action, both before a match and as an assist for the T-1000.
The T-1000 becomes available on March 18th for early access via the Khaos Reigns expansion, with general release on March 25th. Madam Bo arrives on March 18th as a free update for Khaos Reigns owners or a standalone purchase.
The T-1000 marks the final DLC character for the Khaos Reigns expansion, following Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. Speculation about a potential third DLC pack or "Kombat Pack 3" continues, fueled by the franchise's success. Warner Bros. Discovery's commitment to the Mortal Kombat franchise remains strong, with CEO David Zaslav highlighting it as one of four key titles receiving increased investment.
Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat's creative director, previously stated that NetherRealm had decided on its next project three years ago, but reassured fans of continued support for Mortal Kombat 1. While many anticipate a third installment in the Injustice series, neither NetherRealm nor Warner Bros. has confirmed this. Boon previously cited the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to a newer Unreal Engine (Unreal Engine 4 for Mortal Kombat 1, compared to Unreal Engine 3 for Mortal Kombat 11) as factors influencing the development timeline. However, he confirmed that the door is not closed on the Injustice franchise. The Injustice series previously saw releases in 2013 (Injustice: Gods Among Us) and 2017 (Injustice 2).
