How Big Is the Monster Hunter Wilds Day One Patch File Size?

Monster Hunter Wilds launched with a hefty day-one patch, clocking in at a surprising 18GB. While the size might seem daunting, downloading it is crucial for optimal gameplay. Initially released for PlayStation 5, this update is expected to roll out to other platforms soon. Unfortunately, Capcom hasn't yet provided official patch notes detailing the changes.

Many speculate that the update includes high-resolution textures, a feature notably absent from review copies. This would account for the significant file size, as high-res textures demand considerable storage space. Given Monster Hunter Wilds' confirmed PS5 Pro enhancements, the patch likely incorporates optimizations for improved performance on that platform as well.

Bug fixes are another likely component. While Capcom strived for perfection, some issues inevitably slipped through, and addressing them in this initial patch is standard practice.

Despite being termed a "day-one" patch, pre-orders may allow early access to the download. Players with slower internet connections should prioritize installing it before February 28th to ensure a smooth launch experience.

It's important to note this 1.000.020 update is primarily focused on performance and bug fixes, not new content. New content arrives via post-launch DLC. Three paid DLC packs are planned, alongside two free updates. The first free DLC, featuring Mizutsune and event quests, is slated for spring, with additional monsters and missions coming in the summer.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches on PC and consoles February 28th.
