"Mastering Uth Duna: Capture Strategies in Monster Hunter Wilds"
In the wild and treacherous landscapes of *Monster Hunter Wilds*, you'll encounter a variety of fearsome beasts, with Uth Duna being one of the earliest and most striking challenges. If you're looking to conquer and possibly capture this leviathan-type monster, here's your comprehensive guide to doing just that.
How to Unlock Uth Duna in Monster Hunter Wilds
Uth Duna first appears in the **Scarlet Forest** during Chapter 1's mission questline. After you've triumphed over other significant foes like Lala Barina and Congalala, you'll join forces with Alma to meet Olivia and Erik, who are investigating a nearby dam. The weather will take a dramatic turn, and Uth Duna will emerge during **Mission 1-5: Beyond the Deluge**. Your mission then becomes clear: defeat this beast before it wreaks further havoc.
How to Beat and Capture Uth Duna in Monster Hunter Wilds
Known as **‘A Feast in the Deep’**, Uth Duna emerges when the waters of the Scarlet Forest swell to perilous heights. As the apex predator of the region, this monster poses a significant challenge. To prepare for the battle, equip a **thunder-element weapon** if available (you can first acquire this in Mission 2-2 with Rey Dau). Alternatively, boost your **water resistance** with gear or a Talisman like Water Charm I.
Before embarking on the hunt, ensure you've had a hearty meal to keep your Health and Stamina optimal. Also, stock up on **Nulberries** to counteract **Waterblight**, the primary status ailment Uth Duna can inflict.
Uth Duna Attacks and Weaknesses
When facing Uth Duna, pay close attention to its iridescent fins on its legs and tail, which serve as a **‘Veil’**. This veil temporarily increases the monster’s defense but slows its movement. Damaging the veil enough will cause the fins to retract, exposing Uth Duna's vulnerabilities at its **Head (breakable), Mouth, Tail (breakable), and both Forelegs (breakable)**. However, once the veil is gone, Uth Duna becomes more aggressive, so agility is key, especially in the water.
Uth Duna's main attacks include:
- Belly Slam – It rises on its back legs and slams forward, exposing its belly.
- Roar – A roar that can temporarily immobilize you.
- Body Coil – It coils up and spins before lashing out with its tail.
- Aerial Twirl – A leaping attack that covers a large area upon landing.
- Leg Swipe – A close-range swipe with its clawed feet.
After defeating Uth Duna at least once, you can review its weaknesses in your Field Guide.
Should You Capture or Kill Uth Duna?
Similar to previous *Monster Hunter* games, you have the choice to either capture or kill Uth Duna towards the end of the battle. To capture it, weaken the monster until it's "tired" or "exhausted", then use **Shock Traps** or **Pitfall Traps**. Once trapped, deploy a **Tranq Bomb** to complete the capture.
Both capturing and killing yield different rewards. Below are the potential item drops:
