"Mastering Rune Slayer Fishing: A Beginner's Guide"
If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is a true MMORPG, let the presence of fishing put those doubts to rest. Yes, fishing is a hallmark of the genre, and *Rune Slayer* is no exception. But don't worry, we're here to demystify the fishing mechanics in *Rune Slayer*, not just to poke fun at the fact that it isn't as straightforward as in *Fisch*.

Before you dive into the waters of *Rune Slayer*, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. This white-haired NPC can be found at one of the piers where the Baracuda is swimming. Simon's task for you? Catch 5 "fish" (note the quotation marks, we'll get to that), and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box.
Here's the catch: to start fishing, you'll need a **fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman has you covered, selling these essentials right at the pier.

**Buy a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While most players suggest having at least 5 worms, we recommend getting 10 to be on the safe side. And before you ask, **no, you cannot equip the bait**. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory, and though you don't equip them, they're consumed when you catch a fish. **Each time you catch a fish, one Worm will be automatically removed from your inventory**.
Here's a crucial detail: **you won't be able to catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. It was only after we had 5 Worms in our inventory that we started reeling in catches. We suggest placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep an eye on your supply. Once you're equipped, you're ready to move on to the next step.
How to Catch Fish in Rune Slayer

First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it in the traditional sense, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it ready.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**—the pier next to Simon the Fisherman is a great spot. Then, **keep an eye on the bobber**. When you see it **ripple once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
However, **this method isn't foolproof**. Often, you won't catch anything at all. Other times, you might reel in junk, but here's the good news: **Simon counts junk as a catch**—hence the earlier quotation marks around "fish".
So, your goal is to cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and reel in anything five times. In our experience, we caught only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.

**Once you've caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to save inventory space for more important items.
And that's the full scoop on fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your time on the water, and if you need more guidance, don't forget to check out our **The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
