Marvel's New Star Wars Series to Explore the New Republic Era

by Sadie Feb 25,2025

Marvel Comics' flagship Star Wars series is set for a May 2025 relaunch. This new series, following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will depict Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.

Alex Segura, fresh off his Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens the new volume. Veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the illustrations, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.

Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, focusing on the aftermath of the pivotal Battle of Jakku. The nascent New Republic faces significant challenges as it strives for galactic dominance, confronting opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other adversaries exploiting the power vacuum.

"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we're propelling into a new, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "This will involve fresh galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our heroes to confront, seamlessly blending the familiar with the unexpected." He added that the series will deliver action-packed narratives and character-driven moments, while remaining accessible to new readers.

Noto expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting the opportunity to create new visual interpretations of classic characters in a period not depicted in existing films or TV shows. "I get to craft fresh looks for them while referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the feel of this era," he stated.

Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
