Nintendo's Mario Kart World Direct on April 17 provided a deep dive into the game's innovative features. Players will have the freedom to drive around Mario Kart World, exploring both familiar and new regions within the Mario universe.

"In Mario Kart World, the game's courses are seamlessly integrated across the world with roads connecting them, offering players the chance to navigate through scenic routes between races," Nintendo explained.

Embark on an adventure through Mario's world like never before, with breathtaking views and iconic landmarks scattered throughout. As you roam, uncover hidden items and tackle missions that enhance your driving skills beyond the traditional races.

The game introduces a mix of new and classic courses, including Mario Bros. Circuit, Crown City, Salty Salty Speedway, Starview Peak, Boo Cinema, Toad's Factory, Peach Beach, and Wario Shipyard. These classic tracks have been reimagined to blend seamlessly into the expansive world of Mario Kart.

Grand Prix and Knockout Tour

Mario Kart World introduces two thrilling racing formats: the Grand Prix and the Knockout Tour, both accommodating up to 24 racers, marking the largest field in the series' history. Racers will need to be on high alert for various obstacles, including cars launching Bullet Bills and surprise attacks from Hammer Bros.

In the Grand Prix, players will race through four consecutive events to secure victories in the Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup, and beyond. A unique twist requires players to travel between races to continue their Grand Prix journey. Completing all Grand Prix Cups unlocks a rumored "colorful course," speculated to be the iconic Rainbow Road.

The newly introduced Knockout Tour sends players on an epic journey from one end of the world to the other. This survival-style race demands that participants finish in a qualifying position to advance to the next leg, with elimination looming for those who fall behind.

Items, Characters, and More

Mario Kart World brings a fresh arsenal of items to the races, alongside beloved classics. New additions include the Coin Shell, which can knock opponents aside while leaving a trail of coins, the Ice Flower that freezes racers on contact, and the Big Mushroom that temporarily enlarges players, allowing them to squash competitors.

The game's roster is filled with classic Mushroom Kingdom favorites like Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, joined by newcomers such as Goomba, Spike, and even Cow. Hidden throughout the world are alternate costumes for characters, adding variety and flair to the racing experience.

Playing With Friends

Mario Kart World offers a variety of game modes to enjoy with friends. Time Trials allow players to compete against ghost data from other players worldwide. VS mode provides extensive customization, enabling the creation of racing teams to battle head-to-head. Battle mode returns with Coin Runners, where racers vie to collect the most coins, and Balloon Battle, where the last racer with an intact balloon emerges victorious.

The game supports both local and online multiplayer, allowing up to four players to race in split-screen mode on a single system. Local wireless play supports up to eight players (two per Switch 2 device). The new GameChat feature on the Switch 2 enhances the social experience, allowing players to chat and view each other's screens during races.

Additional features include Smart Steering to keep players on track, Auto-accelerate for effortless forward motion, Tilt controls for a more immersive experience, and support for the new Joy-Con 2 Wheel to enhance the racing feel.
