Madame Web’s Sydney Sweeney to Star in Split Fiction Movie Adaptation

by Aria May 23,2025

Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in *Madame Web*, is set to star in the film adaptation of Hazelight's critically acclaimed game, *Split Fiction*. Last month, it was announced that Story Kitchen, the powerhouse behind the successful *Sonic* films, is spearheading the project, and now they've assembled a stellar team. *Wicked* director Jon M. Chu is on board to direct, with the screenplay penned by the dynamic duo behind *Deadpool & Wolverine*, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. With this impressive talent package, Story Kitchen is now shopping the project around Hollywood, sparking an anticipated bidding war among studios.

The burning question on everyone's mind is which sister Sydney Sweeney will portray: Zoe or Mio. According to Variety, the decision is still pending.

*Split Fiction* launched in March and quickly became another hit for Hazelight and designer Josef Fares, selling over 2 million copies in just one week. It's also slated to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review of *Split Fiction* awarded it a stellar 9/10, praising it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, *Split Fiction* is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight isn't stopping there; another of their games, the 23 million-selling *It Takes Two*, is also being adapted into a film, with rumors swirling that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson might take on a starring role.

While there's always the chance that these movie adaptations might not come to fruition, the current wave of successful video game adaptations suggests Hollywood is eager to capitalize on this trend.

Story Kitchen continues to expand its portfolio, having previously announced a film adaptation of Square Enix's *Just Cause* with *Blue Beetle* director Ángel Manuel Soto, as well as projects for *Dredge: The Movie*, *Kingmakers*, *Sleeping Dogs*, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie.

As for Hazelight, they are already teasing their next game, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's to come.
