Konami's Silent Hill f Rated 18+ in Japan

by Joseph Dec 08,2025

Silent Hill f has become the first entry in the franchise to receive an 18+ age rating in Japan.

The recently released Japanese trailer confirms the game holds mature ratings globally - Mature (17+) in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and Japan's strictest CERO:Z classification.

While ratings may adjust during development, as noted by Automaton, this marks a departure from previous Japanese-developed Silent Hill titles (Silent Hill through Silent Hill: The Room) which all carried the more lenient CERO:C (15+) rating. Western-developed entries typically ranged between CERO:C and CERO:D (17+).

PlayInterestingly, even Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake maintains the CERO:C rating in Japan despite its mature Western classification.

The recent Silent Hill Transmission showcase focused exclusively on Silent Hill f - signaling Konami's commitment to this first mainline installment in over a decade.

First revealed in 2022, Silent Hill f transports players to 1960s Japan through the story of Shimizu Hinako, a teenage girl buckling under societal pressures. The narrative comes from Ryukishi07, acclaimed writer of the When They Cry series.

The trailer depicts Hinako's psychological unraveling through disturbing imagery - bloodied, wounded, and in tattered school uniform. While primarily cinematic, glimpses reveal unique monster designs and what appears to be a floral Otherworld replacement for the series' iconic rust-covered nightmare dimension.

Currently, Silent Hill f lacks both release date and gameplay footage. The showcase also omitted any update on No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall project.
