Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Opening Weekend Success

250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) soared to over 250,000 concurrent Steam players by February 9, 2025. KCD2 Creative Director Daniel Vávra shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the game reached a peak of 256,206 concurrent players. Since its launch, KCD2 has set new records for concurrent players every day from February 4 to February 9.

  • February 4 - 159,351 concurrent Steam players

  • February 7 - 190,194 concurrent Steam players

KCD2 sold 1 million copies on its launch day, and with the current estimates, it's on track to reach 2 million copies sold soon.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Attention To Detail

The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing the game's immersion and enjoyment. The series is renowned for its commitment to realism, with features like food spoiling, the necessity to clean clothes and armor, and the need to sharpen swords. KCD2 continues this trend by introducing new elements that immerse players in a 15th-century medieval setting.

KCD2 Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner discussed a new stealth mechanic with GamesRadar. He explained that as players accumulate dirt and grime, they can receive a debuff, which alerts enemies to their presence. "If you get the debuff, your body odour becomes noticeable. There's like a circle around you," Bittner stated. "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."

The game also introduces "handgonnes," a type of early firearm. Bittner told PC Gamer that these weapons were challenging to use, had long reload times, and were often inaccurate and unsafe. "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it," he admitted.

KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their goal of authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he said.

Warhorse Studios has outlined a post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content throughout 2025.

The free updates include a Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing, expected to release in Spring 2025. Paid DLCs will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.

With its impressive opening weekend and the planned updates and DLCs, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success and potentially break more records.
