Keanu Reeves Pitches Constantine 2 to DC Studios, Script Now in Development

by Bella Apr 12,2025

Keanu Reeves has shared an exciting update on the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic film, *Constantine*. In the original movie released in 2005, Reeves portrayed John Constantine, the enigmatic occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics. Following the success of *The Matrix*, the film garnered a dedicated fan base, and over the past two decades, there has been a persistent demand for a sequel. Reeves himself has expressed enthusiasm about revisiting the character, and now, it appears that *Constantine 2* is closer to becoming a reality than ever before.

In a recent interview with Inverse, Reeves revealed that a pitch meeting with DC Studios has taken place, and they have given the green light to proceed with developing a script. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves stated. "So, we're going to try and write a script." This marks a significant step forward for the project, which has been in limbo for years.

While this news is encouraging, it's important to temper expectations. The script for *Constantine 2* has not yet been officially greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Moreover, the film is not currently listed as part of the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran have mentioned it as a confirmed project. Therefore, the sequel remains on the edge of possibility.

Reeves also hinted that if *Constantine 2* does come to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, before adding with a playful tone, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."

This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who mentioned in September that a script for *Constantine 2* was already in his inbox. Speaking to ComicBook, di Bonaventura admitted to being apprehensive about reading it due to his high hopes for the project. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
