Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Appearance in 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow': 'We Look Spot On'
Jason Momoa is set to make a thrilling transition from Aquaman to the iconic character Lobo in the upcoming DC Universe movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter known for his superhuman strength and immortality, originates from the now-extinct planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 back in 1983. Momoa, who previously portrayed Aquaman in the discontinued DC Extended Universe (DCEU), expressed his excitement about taking on the role of Lobo, citing the character as his favorite from the comics and highlighting their aesthetic similarities.
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa provided a glimpse into what fans can expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He emphasized his passion for the role, saying, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool." However, he also noted that Lobo's screen time would be limited, stating, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, although it didn’t reveal much. Gunn announced via a post on Bluesky that production had commenced on *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*, with *House of the Dragon* star Milly Alcock portraying Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The film draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who recruits Supergirl to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, while Eve Ridley takes on the role of Ruthye. The cast is rounded out by David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and, of course, Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in the new DC Universe, following James Gunn's Superman, which is scheduled to hit theaters this summer. The DCU will continue to expand with the Clayface movie set for release in September 2026.
