Harrison Ford: 'Indiana Jones Proves AI Isn't Needed to Capture My Soul'

by Zachary Apr 01,2025

Harrison Ford, the iconic actor behind Indiana Jones, has expressed his approval of Troy Baker's portrayal of the beloved character in the video game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." In a candid discussion with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford humorously remarked, "You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent. He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t take AI to do it." This statement underscores Ford's satisfaction with Baker's performance, emphasizing that human creativity and skill can achieve remarkable results without relying on AI.

"Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," released in December, offers an authentic experience within the long-running series, though it may not be considered canonical. This game's release closely followed the 2023 film "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," which did not fare well with audiences. In contrast, the game has received positive feedback, potentially steering the franchise towards more video game projects rather than continuing with Ford reprising his role.

Ford, known for his roles in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and soon to be seen in Marvel projects, joins a chorus of creatives voicing concerns about the use of AI in media. Notable figures like Tim Burton have labeled AI-generated art as "very disturbing," while Nicolas Cage has called it a "dead end." The issue extends to the voice acting community, where actors like Ned Luke from "Grand Theft Auto 5" have criticized AI chatbots for using their voices without consent. Similarly, Doug Cockle, the voice of "The Witcher," told IGN that while AI is "inevitable," it is also "dangerous" and effectively robs voice actors of potential income.
