GTA 6 Set for Fall 2025 Release, CEO Confirms

by Logan Apr 16,2025

Grand Theft Auto 6 remains firmly scheduled for a fall 2025 release, according to its parent company, Take-Two. In their latest financial report for the third quarter ending December 31, 2024, Take-Two confirmed that GTA 6 will be hitting the shelves on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, maintaining its previously announced release window without any delays.

Ahead of the financial report's release, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed cautious optimism to IGN. "While there's always a risk of slippage, we feel really good about it [fall 2025]," he stated. When pressed further about his confidence in hitting the fall 2025 target, Zelnick noted, "Look, there's always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things. So we feel really good about it."

Zelnick remained tight-lipped about the development progress of GTA 6, simply stating, "I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally. We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. I'm fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we're all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited."

The release date of GTA 6 continues to be a focal point of excitement and speculation within the entertainment industry. Rival publishers, including EA, are closely monitoring the situation. EA's CEO Andrew Wilson recently mentioned the possibility of delaying the new Battlefield game out of the next fiscal year, hinting at the impact GTA 6's release might have on their planning.

While the release window for GTA 6 stays firm, fans are eagerly awaiting the second trailer, which has yet to be released. Over a year has passed since the first trailer, fueling intense speculation among the community. In the meantime, IGN offers a wealth of GTA 6 content, including insights from an ex-Rockstar developer who suggested that the studio might not decide on any potential delays until May 2025, Zelnick's cautious comments on a possible PC release, and expert analysis on whether the PS5 Pro will run GTA 6 at 60 frames per second.

Take-Two also highlighted the ongoing success of other titles. Grand Theft Auto 5 has achieved sales of 210 million units worldwide, while GTA Online enjoyed a strong quarter thanks to the Agents of Sabotage update, with GTA+ memberships seeing a 10% year-over-year increase. Additionally, Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed 70 million in sales and is currently experiencing its highest level of concurrent players on Steam.

Looking ahead, Take-Two has a packed 2025 lineup. They've already released Civilization 7 from Firaxis, with PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K25 set for March, Mafia: The Old Country slated for the summer, GTA 6 in the fall, and Gearbox's Borderlands 4 expected before the year ends.

Take-Two remains optimistic about their upcoming titles, stating, "We are exceedingly optimistic about the commercial potential of our titles and believe that they will have a transformative effect on our business – and our industry – over the long term. We remain highly confident that we will achieve sequential increases in, and record levels of, Net Bookings in fiscal 2026 and 2027."
