"Is Becoming a Ghoul in Fallout 76 Worth It?"
After years of battling Ghouls in *Fallout 76*, players now have the chance to walk a mile in their decaying shoes. A brand-new questline opens the door to becoming one of them, but the decision isn't without consequences. So, should you take the plunge and become a Ghoul in *Fallout 76*? Let’s break it down.
How to Become a Ghoul in Fallout 76
To begin your transformation into a Ghoul, you must first reach level 50 and accept the “Leap of Faith” questline. This path leads you to the Savage Divide, where new allies await to guide you through your rebirth. It's a straightforward process, though not without its trade-offs.
Pros of Becoming a Ghoul in Fallout 76
Becoming a Ghoul unlocks unique abilities like Feral and Glow, each offering powerful perks for those who dare to embrace the change.
Feral Mode:
Your Feral meter starts at 100% and depletes over time. Consuming Chems refills the meter. Here’s what each tier offers:
- Above 80%: +3 Strength, +3 Endurance, +30 Max HP
- Above 60%: +15 Max HP
- Above 40%: -1 Endurance, -5 Max HP
- Above 20%: -3 Endurance, -15 Max HP, -10 Max AP
- At 0%: +150% Melee Damage, -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy
Glow Ability:
As a Glow, you gain increased maximum health and can heal by doing things you'd normally avoid—like consuming spoiled food or wandering through irradiated zones.
In addition to these powers, Ghouls gain access to exclusive Perk cards that stack with standard human perks, offering valuable enhancements. Plus, disease effects no longer impact you, and you’re free to eat anything without consequence.
Cons of Becoming a Ghoul in Fallout 76
There are some notable downsides to consider. Embracing the Ghoul life affects your standing with certain factions, potentially locking you out of quests and causing conflicts. You'll also experience a drop in Charisma, limiting dialogue options and making social interactions less engaging.
However, the game does offer a workaround. Jaye Vo, an NPC introduced in the “Leap of Faith” questline, provides disguises to help you navigate faction tensions and continue playing without constant confrontation.
Should You Become a Ghoul in Fallout 76?
Despite the drawbacks, becoming a Ghoul in Fallout 76 is a compelling choice. The gameplay benefits are substantial, and if you later decide to revert, you can do so via the Character screen. Keep in mind that switching back will prevent you from completing the “Leap of Faith” questline. However, once finished, you can toggle between forms for just 1,000 Atoms.
With all this in mind, it's worth stepping into the Savage Divide and embracing the Ghoul lifestyle—at least for a while.
If you're curious whether Fallout 76 is still worth your time, there’s plenty to explore beyond this questline.
