Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop

Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its flagship FPS title, Deadrop.

In an X post, the studio stated, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The announcement included a plea for job opportunities for its talented team members.

The studio, comprised of Beahm along with Call of Duty and Halo veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhoy, aimed to launch Deadrop, a free-to-play PvPvE extraction shooter, in 2024. However, the game failed to meet its release target.

Following Dr. Disrespect's departure from Midnight Society in 2024 due to controversy surrounding inappropriate messages sent via Twitch Whispers, development continued on Deadrop until its ultimate cancellation this year. The game was envisioned within a unique 80s-themed fictional universe, featuring characters with Daft Punk-inspired helmets and a blend of firearms and melee weaponry.

Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of studios facing challenges within the current difficult climate of the games industry, a trend impacting major players such as Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs.
