Fitness Boxing with Hatsune Miku, New Switch Releases, and More

by Leo Jan 12,2025

Farewell, dear readers, and welcome to the final regular SwitchArcade Round-Up for TouchArcade. This concludes my years of contributions, though a special next week will feature a few delayed reviews. We’re ending with a bang, featuring reviews from Mikhail and Shaun, new release summaries, and our usual sales lists. Let’s enjoy this final ride!

Reviews & Mini-Views

Fitness Boxing feat. HATSUNE MIKU ($49.99)

Following Imagineer's successful Fitness Boxing series, culminating in the surprisingly good Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star, their collaboration with Hatsune Miku was a clever move. I’ve been playing it alongside Ring Fit Adventure, and I’m impressed.

The Fitness Boxing series uses boxing and rhythm game mechanics for fitness. Fitness Boxing feat. HATSUNE MIKU incorporates Miku, even including a dedicated mode for her songs. Note: This is Joy-Con only; no Pro Controller or third-party support.

The game includes difficulty options, free training, warm-ups, progress tracking, reminders, and unlockable cosmetics. While the music is excellent, the instructor's voice is jarring and I had to lower its volume.

Fitness Boxing feat. HATSUNE MIKU successfully blends Miku with the Fitness Boxing formula, appealing to her fanbase. It’s a solid fitness game, but best used as a supplement to other routines rather than as your sole workout. -Mikhail Madnani

SwitchArcade Score: 4/5

Magical Delicacy ($24.99)

Magical Delicacy from sKaule and Whitethorn Games blends Metroidvania exploration with cooking and crafting. While it excels in some areas, flaws hold it back.

You play as Flora, a young witch, in a charming yet mysterious story. The exploration is surprisingly well-done, despite some frustrating backtracking. However, inventory management and the UI require some adjustment.

The game boasts beautiful pixel art, lovely music, and customizable UI options. Some frame rate issues were noticeable on Switch, but overall it plays well, particularly with the satisfying rumble feature. It feels better suited to handheld play.

Magical Delicacy is a promising game that combines two beloved genres. However, inventory and backtracking issues prevent it from reaching its full potential. A few quality-of-life improvements would significantly enhance the experience. -Mikhail Madnani

Aero The Acro-Bat 2 ($5.99)

A sequel to the 16-bit platformer, Aero The Acro-Bat 2, stands on its own merits. While not a massive success, it’s a solid entry in the genre.

This release surpasses expectations with an improved presentation compared to Ratalaika’s usual emulation wrappers. It includes box and manual scans, achievements, a sprite sheet gallery, a jukebox, and cheats. The only drawback is the exclusion of the Genesis/Mega Drive version.

Fans of the original will appreciate this polished sequel. Even those who found the first game lacking might find this more enjoyable. Ratalaika deserves praise for the enhanced emulation. A great release for Aero fans and retro platformer enthusiasts.

SwitchArcade Score: 3.5/5

Metro Quester | Osaka ($19.99)

A prequel to Metro Quester, this installment offers a new setting (Osaka) and dungeon, along with new characters, weapons, skills, and enemies.

The core mechanics remain the same: turn-based combat, top-down exploration, and strategic planning. The new setting introduces canoe travel across water sections.

Fans of the original will find plenty to love here, while newcomers can jump straight in. It's more of an expansion than a full sequel, but it effectively expands upon the existing gameplay. It requires patience, but the rewards are worthwhile.

SwitchArcade Score: 4/5
