Assassin's Creed Shadows debuted on March 20, 2025, and to mark the occasion, Ubisoft unveiled a themed cafe. Game8 had the chance to preview this unique event, so read on for our take on the venue, cuisine, and displays.

Tucked Away in Serenity

A Hidden Gem

The weather was pleasantly mild today, a stark contrast to the heavy snow just two days earlier. While not quite spring, the air hinted at warmer days, making it ideal for a stroll. Harajuku Station buzzed with its usual mix of tourists and trendsetters flocking to vibrant shops and stalls. Yet, just off Takeshita Street, the clamor faded into calm.

In this tranquil corner, perfectly secluded, stood a themed cafe crafted to celebrate the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Ubisoft teamed up with avid fan Dante Carver to transform the stylish dotcom space Tokyo into this themed haven. Game8 was invited to a pre-opening media event, and we extend our thanks to Ubisoft for the opportunity. This piece is unsponsored, shared with readers and Ubisoft alike.

The Setting

dotcom space Tokyo

Though discreetly located, the entrance was unmistakable, with “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” glowing in bold neon. The sign showcased protagonists Yasuke and Naoe, blended with the iconic Assassin’s Brotherhood emblem.

I hadn’t visited dotcom space Tokyo before, but its modern, minimalist vibe was clear: stark white walls, exposed ceilings, and weathered floors (one crack nearly tripped me). Sleek drink machines and angular beige furniture, including two long tables and wall-side seating, filled the space, comfortably fitting about 40-50 guests.

The Assassin’s Creed theme was surface-level but effective: posters of the series’ games adorned the walls, artwork and Ubisoft-logoed pillows were scattered about, and encyclopedias and artbooks from past titles were displayed. A projector silently looped a Shadows event from Kyoto, while classic game soundtracks set the mood.

Exhibits lined the back, but first, let’s dive into the menu.

The Menu

Surprisingly Budget-Friendly

For a themed cafe, the prices were refreshingly affordable. Drinks ranged from 650 to 750 yen (about $4-$5 USD), and food was 800 yen (around $5.30 USD). While pricier than vending machine drinks, the specialty offerings, branding, and included goodie bag (while supplies last) made it a steal for fans.

Drink options included:
⚫︎ Cafe Latte for the Assassin Serving the Light - 650円
⚫︎ Cafe Mocha for the Assassin in the Shadows - 750円
 ⚫︎ Shadows Lemonade - 700円
 ⚫︎ Valhalla Lemonade (Norwegian-inspired) - 700円
 ⚫︎ Odyssey Lemonade (Greek-inspired) - 700円

Food choices were:
 ⚫︎ Assassin’s Creed Dolce Set - 800円
 ⚫︎ Assassin’s Creed Crest Toast - 800円

At the media event, we sampled both food items but picked one drink. Craving caffeine, I opted for Shadows Lemonade in honor of the launch. After a short wait, my order arrived on a tray with a tote bag of goodies, and I snapped photos like a true influencer.

The Cuisine

Toast That Delights

The rich aroma of melted cheese filled the air, growing irresistible as my cheese toast arrived, adorned with the Assassin’s Brotherhood logo, likely in paprika. A side of syrup invited a sweet-salty pairing, common in Japan and surprisingly delightful. Unfortunately, my photo-taking delayed my bite, leaving the toast lukewarm. The crust was slightly tough, but the soft, toasty interior was divine, showcasing Japan’s signature fluffy bread.

The Shadows Lemonade, possibly just soda with red coloring, hinted at cranberry’s tartness—though my taste buds couldn’t confirm. Share your thoughts in the comments!

Dolce Falls Short

The Dolce Set featured a madeleine and a logoed cookie. The madeleine was moist with a subtle almond finish but dense, pairing better with coffee than my lemonade. The cookie, visually striking in teal, was tough beneath its thick frosting. Its faint cocoa flavor couldn’t redeem the texture, making the madeleine the standout.

The Displays

Art and Artifacts

After eating, I explored the exhibits. Replicas of Yasuke’s mask and Naoe’s Hidden Blade were on display, alongside mannequins in meticulously crafted protagonist outfits. I’d hoped for cosplayers, but the mannequins sufficed. Detailed origami, figurines, and a bold painting of the protagonists added flair. Many items, like the Hidden Blade, were available via PureArts, though admiring them in person was satisfying enough.

Worth the Visit?

Manage Your Expectations

The cafe’s appeal is hard to predict—its hidden location and the game’s mixed reception may temper crowds, but themed cafes draw both casual and hardcore fans. Note: the event runs only March 22-23, 2025, from 11:00 am to 6:30 pm.

For Assassin’s Creed fans with realistic expectations, it’s a must-visit. Don’t expect an immersive world; it’s a cafe with branded food, drinks, and merchandise. The affordable prices, tasty cheese toast, free goodies (while available), and no-entry-fee exhibits make it worthwhile. Cosplayers would’ve elevated it, but for a two-day pop-up, it delivers.

If you’re in Harajuku this weekend and a fan, swing by for a quick 30-minute stop. Non-fans might enjoy the toast and colorful drinks, but the experience shines brightest for devotees. For fans abroad, I hope this article brings the vibe to you.
