Sky: Children of the Light Origin Revealed in New Embers Update

I've always admired thatgamecompany's Sky, drawn in by its distinctive visual style, emotional presentation, and compelling narrative more than just its gameplay. Now, Sky: Children of the Light is preparing to launch its very first in-game animated feature titled The Two Embers.

This represents a landmark project for thatgamecompany. A limited in-game screening for The Two Embers: Part One premieres on July 21st. It's a non-verbal animated story that will reveal the beginnings of Sky's origin tale.

Exploring the Story in More Detail

The Two Embers is a two-part story. Part One follows the parallel journeys of two children, separated across time yet profoundly linked. The narrative begins with a young orphan surviving on the outskirts of The Ruler's City, a once-prosperous metropolis now in slow decay.

One day, the child discovers an injured baby manatee, and this encounter becomes a gateway to exploring themes of sorrow, isolation, and the power of small compassionate gestures. Meanwhile, high above, the Ruler observes the crumbling kingdom as a sinister storm approaches.

The feature uses no dialogue or narration. It conveys its story purely through imagery, music, and raw emotion. This minimalist approach fully immerses you in the child's sense of loss, while the manatee's presence offers a beacon of hope.

Sky: Children of the Light has released the first look at The Two Embers: Part One. You can watch it right here!

A new chapter of the film will be unlocked weekly inside the Sky Cinema, a special in-game theatre constructed for this event. Each new chapter will also unlock related in-game content, allowing players to delve deeper into the narrative through interactive gameplay.

An Innovative Approach to Releasing an Animated Feature Inside a Game

Rather than distributing it as a standalone movie or on a streaming service, thatgamecompany is integrating the experience directly into Sky. This is a brilliant strategy that elevates the game into a broader multimedia platform. With Aurora's concert on the horizon and now a complete animated film, the game is truly evolving into something unprecedented.

The film is a production by Light & Realm in collaboration with thatgamecompany, co-produced by Illusorium Studios and Orchid. This is arguably thatgamecompany's most ambitious transmedia storytelling endeavor to date. Don't miss out—discover Sky on the Google Play Store if you haven't already.
