"Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Leaves BioWare"

by Zachary Apr 06,2025

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly set to leave EA-owned BioWare in the coming weeks. Busche took on the role of game director in February 2022 and led the project to its release in October of the previous year. Eurogamer reported on her departure, and IGN has reached out to EA for comment.

Since its launch, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has faced scrutiny regarding its commercial success. However, Eurogamer noted that Busche's departure is not related to the game's performance. EA has yet to disclose whether the game met its sales and revenue targets, with the company scheduled to announce its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

Busche joined BioWare in 2019 after working at Maxis on The Sims projects. She played a crucial role in steering Dragon Age: The Veilguard to completion during the final years of its development, as detailed in IGN's article, 'How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade.' The game's development spanned nearly a decade and underwent a significant transformation from a multiplayer concept to a full-fledged single-player RPG.

BioWare has confirmed that it will not produce any DLC for Dragon Age: The Veilguard and is now focusing on Mass Effect 5, which has been teased but not fully revealed.

In August 2023, BioWare laid off approximately 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These layoffs coincided with internal restructuring at EA, which divided the company into sports and non-sports divisions. Rumors also circulated about a potential acquisition of BioWare, and Star Wars: The Old Republic was transitioned to a third-party service to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in 2024 was met with initial negative reactions to the trailer and the name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard. BioWare responded quickly with an early gameplay tease to address fan concerns. While subsequent impressions were more positive, the future of the Dragon Age series remains uncertain as fans wonder if BioWare will have the opportunity to develop another sequel.
