Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2: Bug Fixes and Language Updates

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has received an unexpected small update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This minor patch appears focused on bug fixes and language file updates. The update's size is relatively small (230MB), although Xbox users report needing a full 40GB re-download.

Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored 2 and the recent Deathloop, is currently occupied with development of Marvel's Blade. This update comes as a surprise, particularly given the closure of Arkane Austin (developer of the original Dishonored and Prey) in 2024, which impacted Arkane's overall development capacity.

The lack of a performance enhancement, such as a 60 FPS mode, is disappointing to many fans. While other Arkane titles offer 60 FPS support on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. This is noteworthy, considering even the original Dishonored and its standalone spin-off, Death of the Outsider, have received 60 FPS upgrades. A potential 60 FPS patch for Dishonored 2's tenth anniversary in 2026 remains a possibility, though it's uncertain if this would be sufficient to satisfy player expectations.

The future of the Dishonored franchise is also uncertain. While a third main installment is desired by many fans, its development is likely years away, if at all, given Arkane Austin's closure and Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade, which currently lacks a release date.
