"Debating the Splinter of Eothas: To Give or Not to Sargamis in Avowed?"

by Gabriel May 05,2025

In the early stages of *Avowed*, players face a significant decision regarding the Splinter of Eothas and Sargamis, leading to various outcomes that range from bad to surprisingly good. This guide delves into the consequences of your choices concerning the Splinter of Eothas.

What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

When you engage in conversation with Sargamis, it becomes clear that refusing to hand over the Splinter will result in a confrontation. True to his threats, if you outright refuse, Sargamis initiates combat. In *Avowed*, he is treated as an optional boss with a distinct name and a formidable health bar, making this one of the more challenging early-game encounters.

Sargamis calls forth two spirit creatures to assist him, though these tend to focus on Kai rather than you. His combat style includes swift, thrusting sword attacks that allow him to cover significant distances quickly. However, he is susceptible to freezing, so equipping ice spells can be beneficial to slow him down.

Upon defeating Sargamis, you are rewarded with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique-class weapon. This mace comes with enchantments that restore three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy and add a ten percent bonus to fire damage on your attacks.

What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

Once you agree to give the Splinter to Sargamis, you have several paths to consider. You can change your mind at any point, which will provoke Sargamis to attack you. Alternatively, you can:

  • Persuade Sargamis to place himself in the statue, resulting in his death and earning you the Last Light of Day mace.
  • Offer yourself to the statue, which leads to two further choices:
    • Stand in the designated circle as instructed by Sargamis and wait for him to activate the machine. This action leads to your character's death, but you will earn the “Get In The Statue, Envoy” achievement. Reloading *Avowed* will return you to the point before standing in the circle.
    • Leave the circle when Sargamis tells you to stand still, triggering his rage and subsequent attack.

How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed

The optimal way to resolve the Splinter of Eothas dilemma is by convincing Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. This approach requires an Intellect stat of at least 4. If you need to adjust your stats, refer to our *Avowed* respec guide. To proceed:

  • Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis.
  • Activate the machine.
  • After the machine fails, speak with Sargamis and convince him of the futility of his plan. He will then abandon the idea.

Selecting the Court Augur or Arcane Scholar background at the start can help initiate this path, though different backgrounds may offer similar choices. Persist in guiding Sargamis towards understanding that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option concerning live soul transfer.

Once Sargamis departs, decide whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters for a final conversation. This approach completes the Dawntreader quest segment, yielding more experience than fighting him or surrendering the Splinter.
