Dawnwalker Devs Aim for Witcher 3 Quality

The open-world vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by ex-CD Projekt Red (CDPR) developers at Rebel Wolves, is setting its sights high. Aiming to match the quality of The Witcher 3 within a more compact experience, this upcoming title promises an engaging adventure. The Blood Of Dawnwalker Aims For AAA Quality

In an insightful interview with Games Radar, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the creative director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, revealed the team's aspirations. Despite being a smaller studio embarking on their first game, their goal is to deliver a quality experience comparable to CDPR's The Witcher 3.

When questioned about the game's categorization—somewhere between indie and AAA—Tomaszkiewicz was clear: "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3."

The team at Rebel Wolves, although a new studio, boasts seasoned talent from CDPR, including veterans of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Founded by Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz and his brother Konrad, Rebel Wolves seeks greater creative freedom than what's typically available at larger AAA studios.

Tomaszkiewicz elaborated on the game's scope, stating, "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours - we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter." He highlighted that The Blood of Dawnwalker aims for a main campaign lasting 30-40 hours, shorter than traditional AAA titles but still packed with quality content. "If size is your measure, then yes it's not the size of a AAA like The Witcher. But I don't know if size is the measure, to be honest, because there are AAA games like Call of Duty that aren't 100+ hours gameplay campaigns. And I don't know if anyone would call them AA, or indie."

Set in the mystical land of Vale Sangora, The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative sandbox open-world dark fantasy RPG. Players will embody Coen, a young peasant transformed by vampiric powers after a fateful encounter. His mission? To save his sister from a deadly illness, leading him on a perilous journey through a hostile, enigmatic realm.

While an exact release date remains undisclosed, The Blood of Dawnwalker is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal in Summer 2025.
