Who is Danny Dyer and Why is Rockstar Posting About His Latest Movie?

by Sadie Mar 18,2025

Rockstar Games' recent X post promoting the film Marching Powder and its star, Danny Dyer, likely left many scratching their heads. Why would a company with 21 million followers promote a seemingly unrelated British film? Let's unravel the mystery.

Who is Danny Dyer?

For those unfamiliar, Daniel John Dyer, or Danny Dyer as he's known, is a prominent East London actor. In the UK, he's a household name, often described as an "absolute legend"—a term signifying someone highly respected and admired for their unique personality and outspoken nature. His career spans back to 1993, and he's known for portraying gritty, working-class characters, a persona often mirrored in his public life. His candid opinions on social and political issues and his "tough uncle" demeanor have contributed to his popularity. His vibrant social media presence further solidifies this image.

Dyer's Connection to Rockstar

While many might not know Dyer, *Grand Theft Auto* fans will likely recognize his voice. He voiced Kent Paul, manager of the band Love Fist, in *GTA: Vice City* and later, the Gurning Chimps in *GTA: San Andreas*. However, his deeper connection to Rockstar stems from the 2004 film The Football Factory, directed by Nick Love and *produced by Rockstar Games*. This marked a foray into feature film production for the gaming giant.

Marching Powder, the film promoted on X, reunites Dyer and Love. While not a direct sequel to The Football Factory, it shares thematic similarities, exploring football hooliganism, heavy drinking, drug use, and a distinctly British sense of humor. Rockstar's involvement is purely supportive, stemming from their previous collaboration with Dyer and Love on The Football Factory.

Kent Paul's Return in GTA 6?

The possibility of Kent Paul appearing in *GTA 6* is purely speculative. The *Grand Theft Auto* universe is divided into distinct eras (3D and HD), with little crossover. While some elements and gangs persist, direct character continuations are rare. However, the presence of Grove Street in *GTA 5* and Kent Paul's name on the Vinewood Walk of Fame hints at potential Easter eggs or references. The X post, however, offers no concrete evidence regarding his return.
