Crimson Desert, Black Desert Online's Successor, Turns Down PS5 Exclusivity Deal
Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert, Opting for Independent Publishing
Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The company confirmed its commitment to self-publishing in a statement to Eurogamer, emphasizing its belief that this approach will be more profitable. While acknowledging ongoing discussions and collaborations with various partners, Pearl Abyss reiterated its previously announced independent publishing plans.

The decision follows a September investor meeting where it was revealed that Sony had attempted to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially excluding Xbox for a period. However, Pearl Abyss prioritized self-publishing for its perceived greater financial returns.

No official release date or definitive platform list has been announced. While speculation points towards a Q2 2025 launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, Pearl Abyss clarified that these details remain unconfirmed. A playable build will be shown to media this week in Paris, with a public demonstration planned for G-Star in November. The developer looks forward to sharing more details soon.
