Channing Tatum’s Canceled Gambit Movie Had a '30s Screwball Romantic Comedy Vibe Set in the Superhero World

Lizzy Caplan reveals Channing Tatum's scrapped Gambit film had a unique twist. In a recent interview with Business Insider, the actress shared that the canceled project, which she was slated to star in alongside Tatum, possessed "a really cool idea."

Caplan confirmed her involvement, stating they were "gonna shoot it" and a start date was even set. The film, initially planned as far back as 2017, was ultimately shelved following the 2019 Disney-Fox merger. This left Tatum, a long-time advocate for the role, reportedly "traumatized" by the experience.

The film's comedic direction was previously hinted at by producer Simon Kinberg in a 2018 IGN interview. He described the intended tone as a "romantic or sex comedy vibe," aligning with Gambit's character.

Caplan corroborated this, describing the envisioned style as "a '30s kind of screwball romantic comedy set in that world, which would have been really fun."

The future of Tatum's Gambit remains uncertain, though the X-Men's imminent arrival in the MCU fuels speculation. Last August, Ryan Reynolds' tweet of a clarified Deadpool & Wolverine scene reignited fan hopes, adding further intrigue to the possibility of Gambit's return.
