Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Rating Hints at Premium Content Carryover

by Sophia Apr 10,2026

Call of Duty fans are convinced they've uncovered evidence that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will allow players to transfer their cosmetic items from Black Ops 6.

The ESRB rating for Black Ops 7 confirms an M 17+ rating and availability on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and last-generation PS4 and Xbox One consoles. Notably, the rating summary mentions weapons featuring "marijuana/joints/paraphernalia," describing scenes where character models inhale from a bong-like device attached to a rifle or smoke joints as part of execution moves.

Many in the community interpret this as a nod to the Dank Days Tracer Pack from Black Ops 6, a premium bundle that includes thematic skins, execution animations, and accessories like weapon charms and sprays with cannabis-related designs.

If this interpretation is correct, it would serve as indirect confirmation that premium cosmetic content from Black Ops 6—including its more whimsical items—will be compatible with Black Ops 7. While some players are thrilled by the prospect of keeping their cosmetic collections for the new installment, the reaction is not universally positive.

"So all the ridiculous content is being carried over," remarked one player, while another commented: "Carry forward confirmed, a massive disappointment."

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7—announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 last month—marks the first back-to-back release in the Black Ops series. According to Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, the development team aimed from the outset to "create a consecutive series experience for our players that captures the distinct identity of the Black Ops sub-franchise." The game will star Milo Ventimiglia as David Mason, Kiernan Shipka as new protagonist Emma Kagen, and Michael Rooker, who reprises his Black Ops 2 role as Mike Harper.

The game will include Skirmish and Overload multiplayer modes, alongside a 20v20 wingsuit option, as these details were inadvertently revealed to all fans via the Call of Duty app following a developer-only Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 playtest. An unfortunate oversight.

Last month, Activision removed controversial advertisements that appeared within Black Ops 6 and Warzone loadouts, describing them as an unintentional "feature test" that was published by mistake. It's important to note that while Black Ops 6 is a premium title priced at $70, this year's Black Ops 7 is anticipated to launch at $80, following Microsoft's announcement that it will price new first-party Xbox games at $79.99 during the holiday season.
