In late January, a video surfaced online demonstrating a tool that hackers use to remove players from matches in Black Ops 6. This video was reportedly captured during the Black Ops 6 multiplayer beta. In response, Activision confirmed the footage was from the beta but emphasized that the vulnerability had been addressed before the game's official release in November. They stressed that the video does not reflect the current state of the game, as the team continuously investigates reports of such utilities.

However, players have accused Activision of dishonesty, asserting that hackers are still exploiting the utility. To support their claims, they shared a video showing the program in use during a match on the Nuketown map, which was introduced to Black Ops 6 just a week after its launch.

Despite these controversies, Black Ops 6 achieved significant commercial success, becoming the top-selling game in the US last year according to Circana analysts. This marks the 16th consecutive year that the Call of Duty franchise has topped the charts in the United States. Meanwhile, EA Sports College Football 25, released on consoles in July, was identified as the most played sports game in the country.

In 2024, U.S. gamers' overall spending saw a slight decline of 1.1% year over year, which Circana attributes to reduced hardware demand. However, there was a notable increase in spending on add-ons and services, up by 2% and 6%, respectively. Looking ahead, the second season of Black Ops 6 and Warzone 2, featuring a ninja theme and a crossover with the "Terminator" universe, is set to launch on January 28.
