The release of Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 7 has ignited a modding frenzy, with an astounding number of modifications downloaded shortly after launch.

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke announced on X (formerly Twitter) that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of the patch's September 5th release. This impressive figure was quickly surpassed, with mod.io founder Scott Reismanis reporting over 3 million installs and counting.

This surge in modding activity is fueled by Patch 7's introduction of several key features, including:

• New Evil Endings: Expanding gameplay options and narrative depth.
• Revamped Split-Screen: Improving the co-op experience.
• Official Mod Manager: A built-in tool simplifying mod installation and management within the game.

The official modding toolkit, available separately on Steam, utilizes Larian's Osiris scripting language, allowing modders to create custom stories, scripts, and even perform basic debugging. Mods can be published directly from the toolkit.

Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon

Larian Studios is actively developing cross-platform modding capabilities, although Vincke acknowledges the complexities involved in ensuring compatibility across PC and consoles. The PC version will be prioritized, with console support following after thorough testing and certification processes.
