The legendary Battle of Hulao Gate in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is an iconic and challenging stage, often requiring multiple attempts to conquer. This guide will walk you through a successful strategy.

This final stage of Chapter 2 tasks you with defeating Dong Zhuo. Expect a significantly longer and more difficult battle than previous missions.

Begin by clearing the four enemy bases in the bottom right of the map. Conquering two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base-clearing strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon.

Once all bases are secured, assault Hulao Gate, initiating a major clash with Dong Zhuo's forces. Your priority is protecting Cao Cao until he unleashes his Grand Tactic, weakening the defenses and paving your way forward.

Lu Bu Appears

Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation; he’s overwhelmingly powerful. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers near the main battle to maintain morale, which Lu Bu significantly depletes. Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (Yuan Shao). Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will temporarily hold him off, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time limit; once Liu Bei's forces retreat, you must be close to defeating Dong Zhuo to avoid mission failure.

Go After Dong Zhuo

After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Instead of immediately charging Cao Cao, capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads ready and your health replenished, attack Dong Zhuo.

Dong Zhuo will initiate a Grand Tactic (fireballs). Destroy the two front catapults. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through the soldiers guarding them. Eliminate surrounding soldiers and officers to allow your forces to destroy the catapults, ending the Grand Tactic.

Dong Zhuo will launch another Grand Tactic. Defeat an officer to end it. Proceed to the right-hand stairs, encountering Diaochan (a defector fighting for Dong Zhuo). If possible, duel her; defeating her simplifies the fight against the officer. Once this Grand Tactic is over, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces, boosted by potentially Dian Wei's Grand Tactic, should overwhelm Dong Zhuo's weakened army. Defeat Dong Zhuo to complete the mission.
