Atelier Yumia: Memory Alchemist's Land Synthesis Guide
One of the most intricate features in *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is deeply integrated into nearly every aspect of the game. From the resources you gather to the weapons you craft, mastering Synthesis is key to enhancing your gameplay experience. Here’s how to optimize your use of this system.
Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia
In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:
- Regular Synthesis: This is performed at an Alchemist’s altar and is essential for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and the materials needed for other types of Synthesis. You unlock the Atelier early in the game, which serves as your main hub for regular Synthesis. Additionally, in certain areas like cleared manabound zones and campsites, you can build Simple Altars to conduct regular Synthesis.
- Simple Synthesis: Accessible through the radial menu outside of battle, this allows you to craft essential items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and repair kits for treasure chests and ladders, provided you have the necessary resources.
- Building Synthesis: Also accessed via the radial menu, this is available on specific plots of land and involves creating storage chests and wall hangings. Although not explicitly labeled as Synthesis, it is indeed a form of it, as the game’s narrative will often reference it as such.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia
Regular Synthesis at the Alchemist’s altar is the most complex form of Synthesis in *Atelier Yumia*. To craft items like a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to discover the recipe while exploring the world. You can then enhance your existing recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains. Here’s how to proceed with regular Synthesis:
- Choose the type of gun staff you want to create.
- Select Synthesis Skills if you have unlocked them in the skill tree.
- Choose an initial Alchemy Core to build upon. There are three types of cores:
- Effects Alchemy Core: Enhances the selected skills.
- Quality Alchemy Core: Boosts the quality level of the finished item.
- Trait Alchemy Core: Increases the number of Trait Crystal slots you can use.
- Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with the resources you’ve gathered.
- Collect mana fragments to further increase the item's quality.
- Finalize and Synthesize the item.
To craft powerful items early in the game, prioritize unlocking Synthesis Skills from the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills provide significant boosts to damage and quality, and allow you to duplicate items, conserving resources.
To maximize item quality, add resources to all three Alchemy Cores. Use the left or right bumper to navigate between cores while filling slots. Collecting mana fragments (the yellow sparkles around an Alchemy Core) for all three cores will significantly enhance your item’s strength, though this may not be necessary for quest-specific items.
When selecting resources, match them to the element type of the specific slots, identifiable by a blue outline. You can also organize your resources from the submenu to prioritize higher-quality ones, although sometimes prioritizing effects might be more beneficial.
If you find the Synthesis mechanic too complex, you can opt for the auto-Synthesis feature after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game is designed to create the best possible item, making it feasible to tackle the final boss on Normal difficulty without much difficulty.
That’s everything you need to know to master the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land*, which is available now.
