How To Anoint in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

by Simon Mar 28,2025

In the action-packed world of *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is key, and anointing your amulets and Waystones is a potent way to do just that. Understanding how to anoint, however, can be a bit complex, but don't worry—I'm here to guide you through it.

How to Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing becomes available later in the game, as you'll need Distilled Emotions, which you can obtain from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original *Path of Exile*, you might recognize Distilled Emotions as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions to collect: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random mix of these emotions. Alternatively, you can trade for them on the market or use currency exchanges. To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, head to the Reforging Bench where combining three of the same type will yield an upgraded version of that emotion, giving you more control over your collection.

For those seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions, though they're less efficient for farming compared to Delirium Maps and require a robust build to tackle.

How to Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing is currently available for Waystones and amulets, with potential for more options as the game evolves in Early Access. To anoint an amulet, first select a Distilled Emotion to open the Instilling window. The choice of emotion here is inconsequential. Position the amulet in the central box and then place a Distilled Emotion in each of the three boxes below it. The specific emotions needed for your desired anointing ability are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. You can find this information by hovering over a Notable Passive Skill and pressing alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this isn't a permanent choice. You can alter the anointed passive on an amulet by simply repeating the anointing process, allowing you to adapt to your current build's needs.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to make them more challenging, which can also improve the loot you receive. However, note that you cannot anoint items that are corrupted, whether they are amulets or Waystones.

With these steps, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets and challenge yourself with anointed Waystones, all within the thrilling universe of *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
