Ananta: Project Mugen Rebranded, New Trailer Released

Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG developed by Naked Rain and published by NetEase? Well, there's a big update: the game has officially undergone a name change and is now called Ananta. This RPG was first unveiled back in August 2023 at Gamescom, and after what seemed like an eternity without updates, the team has finally released a new trailer. They've promised more information on December 5th, but in the meantime, be sure to check out the official trailer for Project Mugen/Ananta.

Why the Name Change?

The developers haven't provided any specific reasons for the name change yet. Interestingly, Ananta means "infinite" in Sanskrit, which aligns perfectly with the original name, Mugen, also meaning "infinite." The Chinese name further supports this theme. The gaming community has mixed feelings about the rebranding, but there's a collective sigh of relief knowing the project is still alive and kicking.

Meanwhile, players are already comparing Ananta with another upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness by Hotta Studio. Ananta's new trailer is undeniably slick, yet it doesn't feature any gameplay. For many, Neverness to Everness still holds the upper hand, but I personally find Project Mugen/Ananta visually more captivating.

Here’s Where Things Get Weird, Though

In an odd twist, Team Project Mugen has deleted all their original social accounts, including a YouTube channel that boasted over 100k subscribers and videos with millions of views. They've retained the Discord server, simply renaming it, but for everything else, they've started from scratch. This has left many gamers puzzled, as they could have easily just renamed the existing accounts.

In Project Mugen or Ananta, you step into the shoes of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator tasked with managing paranormal chaos. The game features a diverse cast including characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
