Amazon's God of War TV Series Already Set for Season 2 Before Season 1 Has a Release Date

by Charlotte Mar 22,2025

Amazon's upcoming God of War TV series, before even premiering, has already secured a two-season order, according to showrunner Ronald D. Moore.

Moore stepped into the God of War adaptation after the departure of previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. In a conversation with fellow Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff, Moore revealed his current project: "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," he stated. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, working on that. That's my new thing."

Interestingly, Moore admitted he isn't a gamer, though he enjoys classic arcade titles like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously recounted his struggles with modern controllers: "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," he chuckled.

For God of War, Moore's role encompasses writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His impressive resume includes work on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and, notably, showrunner duties for the 2000s Battlestar Galactica.

While some members of the original team departed, Sony's Cory Barlog remains as an executive producer. Details about the series remain scarce, but it's confirmed to be based on the critically acclaimed 2018 God of War game.

Amazon's swift renewal of video game adaptations like the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, following their successful premieres, suggests a positive outlook for the God of War series' streaming potential.
