Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs

by Emily Mar 27,2025

The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains a powerhouse in the graphics card arena. It outshines the likes of the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. The only GPU that surpasses it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously hard to find without a hefty price markup.

With the RTX 4090 now discontinued, finding one has become increasingly challenging. However, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PCs that can be equipped with this formidable GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 starts at $2,999.99, while the Dell Tower Plus begins at $2,849.99. These are the most affordable options for an RTX 4090-equipped system, as many other manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have stopped offering RTX 4090 prebuilt PCs.

Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 4090 Gaming PC

Priced at $2,999.99 at Alienware, this Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC boasts an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The processor can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though this may be unnecessary for gaming-focused builds since performance at higher resolutions is typically GPU-bound. The standard Intel Core Ultra 7 265F is impressive with a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores, cooled by a robust 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

Dell Tower Plus RTX 4090 Gaming PC

Available for $2,849.99 after a 10% discount at Dell, the Dell Tower Plus gaming PC features specs similar to the Alienware model, including an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Upgrading the processor to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K for an additional $100 is recommended, as it not only improves performance but also upgrades the cooling from standard to advanced air cooling, rated for 125W TDP. The system is also powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?

The RTX 4090 is the top-performing GPU in the RTX 40 series, with only the RTX 5090, priced at a $2,000 MSRP, offering superior performance. It delivers exceptional 4K gaming performance, comfortably achieving 60+ fps with maximum settings and ray tracing enabled, especially with DLSS support. While it struggles with path tracing, this feature is rarely used outside of benchmarks and social media showcases. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's capabilities are more than sufficient, making the RTX 5090's performance gains less necessary.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and costly, but its performance is unmatched. As the only available card of its generation, it's compared against older models, and it excels with its hardware specs and DLSS 3 AI technology. Even at $1,599, the unrivaled frame rates make it a worthwhile investment."

Dell offers an Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. According to our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review by Jackie, "For those with recent high-end graphics cards, the RTX 5080 doesn't offer significant improvements over the RTX 4080, though DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation enhances game visuals. However, for users upgrading from older GPUs, the RTX 5080 delivers a substantial performance boost, especially with Nvidia's AI enhancements."
