AGDQ 2025 Raises Over $2.5 Million For Charity

Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 surpasses fundraising goals, exceeding $2.5 Million for Cancer Prevention

The Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2025 event, held from January 5th to 13th, successfully raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, a significant increase of over $100,000 compared to the 2024 event. This annual winter speedrunning marathon featured a diverse lineup of games, including popular titles like Crazy Taxi and Super Metroid, showcasing impressive skill and raising substantial donations.

AGDQ, a cornerstone event of the Games Done Quick (GDQ) organization, is one of two major annual marathons, complemented by the Summer Games Done Quick event in July. GDQ also organizes smaller, focused events throughout the year, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to charitable fundraising. A notable example is the October 2024 Disaster Relief Done Quick, which raised over $45,000 for Direct Relief in response to Hurricane Helene.

This year's AGDQ 2025, held in Pittsburgh, kicked off with a swift Pikmin (Switch) run by speedrunner Ray0ken. The event's success underscores the continued partnership between GDQ and the Prevent Cancer Foundation, with AGDQ 2025 contributing to over $26 million raised for the foundation through various GDQ events. The Prevent Cancer Foundation focuses on early detection, prevention, research, and public awareness programs.

A standout moment was a unique Crazy Taxi run by speedrunner Chuckles825, accompanied by a live band performing cover versions of the game's music to circumvent copyright restrictions. This innovative 18-minute run generated over $24,000 in donations.

The marathon concluded with a thrilling randomized four-player race of Super Metroid (SNES), resulting in an incredibly close finish. Looking ahead, GDQ will host Summer Games Done Quick 2025 in Minneapolis from July 6th, benefiting Doctors Without Borders.
