"6 Cartoon Network Games Removed from Platforms"

Summary

  • Warner Bros. Discovery has delisted several Cartoon Network games, sparking fan outrage due to the lack of clear reasons provided.
  • The delisted games include titles like Steven Universe: Save the Light and Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time.
  • Adventure Time: Finn and Jake's Epic Quest, released in 2014, is the oldest game affected by this decision.

In a move that has left fans dismayed, Warner Bros. Discovery has recently delisted at least six games from their Cartoon Network Games and Adult Swim Games labels across various digital storefronts, including Steam and the Nintendo eShop. These games, which include beloved titles like Steven Universe: Save the Light and Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time, can no longer be purchased legally, with only a brief message from the publisher indicating their removal.

This action by Warner Bros. Discovery aligns with their broader strategy of cost-cutting, which has previously involved shelving nearly completed movies and removing original films from streaming services. Earlier in the year, a similar situation unfolded with several Adult Swim indie games, such as Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality and Duck Game, being slated for delisting. Although some of these games were eventually spared, the lack of communication from Warner Bros. Discovery led to another wave of delistings.

The recent mass delisting occurred on December 23, affecting titles like Adventure Time: Finn and Jake's Epic Quest, Adventure Time: Magic Man's Head Games, OK K.O.! Let's Play Heroes, Steven Universe: Unleash the Light, and Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time. Each game on Steam now features a message stating it "will no longer be available for sale after Dec. 23rd, 2024," attributed to "Cartoon Network Games" or "Adult Swim Games."

List of Delisted Cartoon Network Games:

  • Adventure Time: Finn and Jake's Epic Quest
  • Adventure Time: Magic Man's Head Games
  • OK K.O.! Let's Play Heroes
  • Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time
  • Steven Universe: Save the Light
  • Steven Universe: Unleash the Light

Not all games under the Cartoon Network Games label have been delisted; for instance, Cartoon Network Journeys VR and Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake remain available on Steam. Similarly, the soundtrack for OK K.O.! Let's Play Heroes is still purchasable. Despite these exceptions, Warner Bros. Discovery has not disclosed any reasons for the delistings.

Adventure Time: Finn and Jake's Epic Quest, released in April 2014, marks the oldest game affected by this decision. Other notable delistings include Steven Universe: Save the Light and OK K.O.! Let's Play Heroes from 2018, and Steven Universe: Unleash the Light from 2021. This follows a similar delisting event in March 2024, where public outcry managed to save several Adult Swim games. Fans are particularly upset about Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time, as it provided a canonical conclusion to the show's fifth season, leaving many feeling that Warner Bros. Discovery's actions were abrupt and unjustified.
