Tides Of Annihilation Trailer Showcases Fast-Paced Combat
A Sneak Peek Into An Apocalyptic London
First revealed during the recent PlayStation State of Play, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation has sparked even more interest with its newly released extended gameplay trailer.
The trailer offers a glimpse into early development gameplay, featuring protagonist Gwendolyn and her sword-transforming companion, Niniane, as they navigate the ruins of a desolate, otherworldly London, devastated by an Outworld invasion. As they journey through the crumbling streets, they encounter numerous enemies that obstruct their path. It's revealed that Gwendolyn can summon a band of over ten legendary knights, inspired by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, to aid her in battle.
After clearing the enemies and further exploration through a magical portal, Gwendolyn and Niniane are thrust into a boss fight against Mordred, a character with opposing objectives. This intense confrontation showcases the game's action-packed combat, underscored by a haunting choir, and sets the stage for the narrative conflict.
According to the game’s producer Kun Fu, featured on the PlayStation.Blog, the battle system will incorporate "intuitive co-op combat in a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights with distinct combat roles at a time, requiring strategic planning based on the situation. "The interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. It’s a system that our team (veterans from top game studios) fell in love with during internal playtests," Fu explains.
A Nod To Devil May Cry And Bayonetta
Fans have taken to the video’s comments section to laud the trailer's content, including its art direction, style, and the fluid, fast-paced hack-and-slash combat. Many have drawn comparisons to classics like Devil May Cry (DMC) and Bayonetta, while also noting similarities to Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. The trailer has generated significant enthusiasm among netizens, who are recognizing its "immense potential" and are eager to purchase it upon release.
Tides of Annihilation is the debut title from Chengdu-based game studio Eclipse Glow Games, blending Arthurian legend with an alternate modern-day London. Players will step into the role of heroine Gwendolyn, a survivor of an apocalyptic event. While no specific release window has been confirmed, the game is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
